Hydro Jetting for Sewer and Drain Lines in Gardena
When a sewer line keeps clogging, high-pressure water jetting can scour out roots, grease and buildup that a standard snake leaves behind.

What is hydro jetting?
Short answer: hydro jetting cleans the inside of a sewer or drain pipe with a specialized nozzle that sprays water at high pressure. It cuts through tree roots, grease, soap scum and scale and flushes the debris down the line, cleaning the pipe wall rather than just punching a hole through the clog.
The hose is usually fed in through a cleanout, the capped pipe outside the house or in a crawl space. Rear-facing jets pull the nozzle forward while they scrub the pipe.
Hydro jetting vs. snaking (cabling)
- Snaking uses a rotating cable to break through a clog. It is quick and often enough for a single blockage.
- Hydro jetting cleans the full diameter of the pipe. It is often suggested for repeat clogs, heavy grease or root intrusion.
Many providers snake first to restore flow, run a camera, and then recommend jetting if the line is coated or root-filled.
Signs your line may need jetting
- The same main line clog keeps coming back every few months.
- Several drains are slow at once, or water comes up in the tub when you flush.
- A camera inspection shows roots, grease or scale along the pipe.
- Gurgling drains or sewer odors after a recent snaking.

When hydro jetting is not the right fix
Jetting cleans pipes; it does not repair them. On a line that is cracked, collapsed, badly offset or made of fragile, deteriorated pipe, high-pressure water can make damage worse or simply wash dirt into the break. That is why a camera inspection before jetting is good practice. If the camera shows broken pipe, the conversation turns to spot repair, lining or replacement.
What happens during a jetting visit
- The provider locates an accessible cleanout.
- A camera inspection checks pipe condition and finds the problem areas.
- The line is jetted in passes, matching nozzle and pressure to the pipe.
- A follow-up camera run confirms the pipe is clean and shows any defects.
Ask for a copy of both camera videos so you have a record of the line's condition.
Cost factors
We don't publish prices; each provider sets its own. Price usually depends on access (an existing cleanout or not), the length of line, how heavy the roots or grease are, whether camera inspections are included, and whether it is an after-hours visit.
Keeping the line clear afterward
- Don't pour cooking grease or oil down the kitchen sink. Let it cool and put it in the trash.
- Flush only toilet paper. "Flushable" wipes don't break down like paper.
- If roots were the cause, ask how often the line should be checked or maintained.
Questions to ask
- Will you run a camera before and after jetting, and can I have the videos?
- Is my pipe in good enough condition to be jetted?
- Do I need a cleanout installed for access?
- What is your California contractor license number? Check it with the Contractors State License Board.
Hydro jetting FAQs
Is hydro jetting better than snaking?
For a single clog, snaking is often enough. For repeat clogs, heavy grease or roots, hydro jetting cleans the whole pipe wall and is often longer-lasting. A camera inspection helps decide.
Can hydro jetting damage my pipes?
On a pipe in good condition it is generally safe when done correctly. On cracked, collapsed or fragile pipe it can make things worse, which is why a camera inspection first is recommended.
Does hydro jetting remove tree roots?
It can cut and flush out roots inside the pipe, but roots can grow back through the same cracks or joints. A permanent fix may need a repair or lining.
How long does hydro jetting take?
A typical residential visit often takes a couple of hours, depending on access, line length and how much buildup there is.
Do I need a cleanout for hydro jetting?
An accessible cleanout makes jetting much easier. If your home doesn't have one, a provider may suggest installing one.
